Session Analysis: Why Your London Open Trades Are Different From New York

Aggregate data hides the truth

If your overall win rate is 52%, that's one number. But what if your London session win rate is 61% and your New York session win rate is 42%? Those two numbers tell a very different story about where your edge actually lives.

Session analysis is one of the highest-leverage things a trader can do. It costs nothing except journaling consistently and filtering by time.

What to look for

Volume and volatility β€” London open (7am–10am GMT) and New York open (1pm–3pm GMT) are the highest-volume windows. Spreads are tighter, moves are cleaner.

Your own performance β€” Run your P&L by session for the last 90 days. Most traders find their edge is concentrated in 1–2 sessions and they're giving back profit trading outside of them.

Setup frequency β€” Some setups appear more in certain sessions. A breakout strategy may work in the London open but not in the late New York session when volume dries up.

The simple action

If your session data shows you're consistently losing in a particular window, stop trading that window. Not forever β€” just until you understand why.

Edgeely's session breakdown shows win rate, profit factor, and average trade P&L by session automatically. Run it on your last 60 trades and see what the data says.
